Way To Go

CHALLENGE VS. MONTPELIER

Way to Go! Week is here and it's time to gear up to crush some carbon! Way To Go week is a chance for you and our school to go toe to toe against carbon pollution and win. Bike, walk, carpool or ride the bus to victory! Win prizes, have fun-and help us reach our goal of reducing 500,000 lbs of carbon pollution.

The Way to Go School Challenge dares you to be the greenest and cleanest school in Vermont. By encouraging students and families to choose a clean commute option we can have a real impact on reducing harmful vehicles emissions that are emitted into our environment.

U-32 vs. MHS....the faculty staff portion is on-line...register at waytogovt.org. The student portion, the challenge against Montpelier High school is going to be based on ONE day. As coordinator of the student portion of this, I have chosen Friday as our "Carbon Crunching Day." Please spread the word!! Ask your students to commute in a carbon cleaner way on Friday: take the bus (or continue to do so), carpool with a friend or ride your bike. You can also make other choices that day (and every day), to not make a trip that is not essential. We will log the # of students who are doing this throughout the day on Friday. I will ask First Student to tally the # of bus riders, both to and from school. I will devise a way to tally our carpoolers before and after school. If you are interested in helping with this Friday data collection, please let me know.

Prom Information

Tickets will be sold in the guidance office before school and during lunch only until May 16th.

We are packing up the library!

The library carpet is going to be replaced this summer. In order for this endeavor to go as smoothly as possible, there is a new schedule for the end of the year. Beginning June 5^th the library staff will be boxing up the books, and not available to work with students and staff.

In order to accommodate the learning community during this busy time of year:

The library computer lab will be open for teachers to bring their classes.
English books will still be available for students and teachers.
The White table will run as usual.
The computers in the front of the library will be available.
All books not part of summer borrowing are due back in the library by May 31^st.
Every year the library staff encourages students to borrow books for the summer. This summer students will be able to borrow ten books for the summer (up from the regular five books). Summer borrowing begins Monday May 20^th and ends May 31st.
The last day that inter-library books may be requested is May 15^th.
As the library has done for the last several years, students will be able to return and borrow books one day a week during the summer. This year, there will be a small satellite library available on Fridays. Check the school website www.u32.org for specific dates.

Opportunities for girls and adults

TAKING LEADERSHIP TO THE OUTDOORS

Camping is a great way for girls to explore leadership, build skills, and develop a deep appreciation for nature. Whether they go for a day, week, or longer, Girl Scout camp gives girls an opportunity to grow, explore, and have fun under the guidance of caring, trained adults. For many girls, camp is the first opportunity they have to experience archery, horseback riding, and science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programming. Every girl deserves a chance to camp!

Tech Camp

NEW ENGLAND INSTITUTE OF TECH is please to invite current 11^th & 12^th to TECH CAMP 2013.

Tech Camp 2013 runs from Monday July 8^th � Friday July 12^th. Tech Camp is free except for the $75 non refundable registration fee. Students will be in class from 9am to 2pm daily and lunch is provided. Lodging is not included. Go to www.neit.edu for more information.

StarTalk Program at UVM for students (VT,MA,NY,NH) interested in learning the Chinese Language and Chinese Culture. Open to high school students in grades 10-12. This program enrolls students who have no experience learning the language. Cost is $200 which covers all fees including housing, meals, and learning materials. Students will live on the UVM campus from August 3^rd � August 9^th and 25 students will be enrolled. Interested student can obtain an application in the guidance office. Conversations from the open road

NEW PROGRAM FOR 16-19 YEAR OLDS�

It is a road trip, film "camp". Students will take a current issue and then travel to an area significantly affected by that issue. Students will listen to, learn about and film the stories from the community. The 12 day immersion culminates in a collaborative short documentary video. 2 trips planned in August. National Poem in your Pocket Day

CELEBRATE NATIONAL POEM IN YOUR POCKET DAY on Thursday, April 18, 2013!

The idea is simple: select a poem you love during National Poetry Month then carry it with you to share with co-workers, family, classmates and friends. You can also share your poem selection on Twitter by using the hashtag #pocketpoem.

Come to the library ahead of time and browse our poetry collection to find a poem OR stop by the Poem in Your Pocket table in the atrium on Thursday and pick up a ready-to-go poem to share.

Center for Cartoon Studies

SCHOLARSHIP FOR A TEEN CARTOONIST:

For the fifth year in a row, the Center for Cartoon Studies in White River Junction has donated a full scholarship to the Department of Libraries so a Vermont teen can attend their one week workshop, "Create Comics," this summer. This full scholarship, worth $900, includes the workshop, supplies, morning and afternoon snacks, lunch and evening student activities. Lodging is not included, but there is a very inexpensive hostel option at the nearby Hotel Coolidge. Any Vermont student age 16 or older (must be 16 years old by June 1, 2013) is eligible. The workshop will take place in White River Junction, VT July 8-12, 2013.

Vermont teens interested in the scholarship should apply through their local school or public library. The only entry requirements are: (1) that the student is at least 16 years old, and (2) the applicant has the ability to attend the entire workshop in July. Yearbooks

The last date to order yearbooks online by credit card is May 3, 2013. After that date, you will be taking a chance on whether there will be one available for purchase. Pat Fair, in the Library, will be selling them until that date also. The price this year is $25.00 for a full color yearbook.

Seeking School Supply Donations for Guatemala Trip

THERE ARE 10 U-32 STUDENTS TRAVELING TO GUATEMALA AND HONDURAS AS A PART OF THE SPANISH CLASS TRIP IN APRIL. We will be doing a few community service activities while we are there (building cooking stoves, delivering goats (yes, this should be interesting), and meeting with young indigenous children). We have been asked to bring school supplies with us, if possible, to help outfit their school. Markers, color pencils, geometric rulers, compasses, eraser, sharpeners are all really appreciated. In addition, they would love used backpacks in good condition. They do not want us to bring paper supplies at all.

The Spanish students will be doing a school supply (and monetary donation) during the next two weeks. If you would look around your house, or consider a quick trip to the Dollar Store, we would really appreciate any donations that you could make. Monetary donations will be spent on supplies to bring as well. You can drop off any donations to Adam French's room upstairs.

Unified Sports Bocce Practices

Fantasy Book Group

VT Virtual Learning Cooperative courses open for registration

GRADE 7-11 TAs: VTVLC (Vermont Virtual Learning Cooperative) courses are open for registration for the 2013-2014 school year. These are free online courses for students in grades 7-12. Available courses are listed under the �Course Listings� link on the left side of the VTVLC website: (https://vtvlc.org).

***If a student put a VTVLC course in her/his course requests they still need to register online for the course. (S)he can pick up the approval form and directions for registering in the Guidance office. Other students can register as well, even if it wasn�t in their initial course requests.

Cross Fit and Ultimate Frisbee

There is still room in the Cross Fit (with an instructor from the Confluence Gym) class, which meets 3-4:30, Tues and Thursday, March 19 and 21. Sign up in the Community Connections office.

Drop in Ultimate Frisbee is happening Monday March 18 and Thurs. March 21. 3:00 in the old gym.

The Deadline to Apply for the Governor's Institutes of VT

Be Wearin' the Green

High School Athletes

First practices will be Monday, March 25^th. Make sure that all of your paperwork is returned by then AND that uniforms and equipment from any previous sports are also returned. Once you are signed up, you will get info on tryouts and practices.

Spring Sports

All Spring Sport Athletes � spring sports meeting on Wed, March 20^th at 6:30 in the Auditorium. Come and meet your coach, hear about season info etc. Also, make sure that you are signed up for the sport that you want to play. Your TA can check that on your schedule or you can stop by the athletic offices and we can help you also. If you aren�t signed up, you need to get an athletic participation form and get it filled out before the first practice.

VAST

On Thursday, Feb 21st at 9 am, Sue Polen from the Vermont Academy of Science & Technology (VAST) at Vermont Technical College (VTC) will be at U-32 in the Guidance Office to talk with students about VAST program.

VAST provides an opportunity for high school seniors with a strong interest and ability in science and math to complete their senior year at VTC. Recognized by the state of Vermont as an approved independent high school, the program awards high school diplomas. Additionally, because Vermont state law allows VAST students to transfer Vermont Tech credits back to their sending high schools, the students may receive a second high school diploma from U-32.

Applications for VAST are accepted annually until April 1st and decisions made regarding acceptance into the program are decided annually April 15th. Any available seats available after April 15th are filled on a rolling basis.

Entry into VAST is competitive. Students should have a strong academic transcript and PSAT scores of 55 or higher for each sub-score. VAST students are expected to maintain at least a 2.0 GPA while attending Vermont Tech or they will be required to return to their sending high school. VAST students are also expected to adhere to all policies and procedures outlined in the student handbook.

Upon completion of the one-year program, students may remain at Vermont Tech to complete a degree or transfer to another institution.

The Vermont legislature has provided that a Vermont student�s general state support grant for the senior year of high school may be used to cover tuition for VAST. Vermont Tech provides financial aid to Vermont residents for any gap that may exist between the state grant and its tuition, enabling Vermonters to attend VAST tuition-FREE. Other non-tuition fees, including room and board for students who choose to live on campus, are the responsibility of the student.

If you are interested in learning more about VAST, please come to the Guidance Office at 9 am on Thursday, Feb 21st.

International Day of Awareness about Violence Against Women

February 14, 2013 is an international day of Awareness about Violence Against Women.

One in three women on the planet will be physically assaulted in her lifetime. This statistic is as true in the developed world as it is in the developing world. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS.

February 14th is a day to consider this staggering statistic and to start to take a stand against violence against women. Today's change music is from the website www.onebillionrising.org and is called "Break the Chain," by Tena Clark.

Free Class at CCV

Introduction to College Studies (ICS)�.pass and earn a FREE college course!!!

FREE course taught at Community College of Vermont (CCV) in Montpelier that provides an orientation to the college experience for high school students. This course will help students make the transition to college by exploring the skills and expectations necessary at the college level. Students will develop time management, test taking, communication and study skills. Students will also get tips on stress management and goal setting, and learn how to seek and use information resources. Students who successfully complete ICS can take a 3 credit college course at CCV or any Vermont State College FREE. Course must be taken prior to the student�s high school graduation.

Senior Privilege Cards

are complete and ready for pick-up. They give seniors the ability to get into U-32 sporting events for free and get a discount on bowling at Twin City Lanes. Please have them pick up their cards with Heather Magoon in the main office. If they owe the school any money that will have to be paid in full before they can get their senior privilege cards. Please also tell them to read the whole card so they know how it works. Thank you!

Scholarship Opportunity

Each year U-32 can nominate one student (gr 9-11) for the Carson Scholar Fund. This award is a $1,000 college scholarship. The minimum requirements are a 3.75 GPA and involvement in community service.

What it means to be a Carson Scholar

Scholarship winners are designated as �Carson Scholars� and receive a $1,000 scholarship award to be held in trust until he/she attends college. Winners are honored at an annual awards banquet where they receive an Olympic-sized medal and a certificate of accomplishment. Schools also receive a trophy and/or nameplate highlighting the student�s accomplishments.

After winning a scholarship once, previous scholars can apply to our Scholar Recognition Program every following year. While the Recognition program does not include an additional monetary award, it does include all of the other elements of the program � a pin, certificate, nameplate or trophy for the school, and the opportunity to attend an awards banquet.

If your TA is interested please have them submit an essay to the guidance office by December 20th. Choose 1 of the 2 essay options below:

Please stop by the gallery on Thursday 12/6 to see a ONE DAY ONLY show in honor of Lida Winfield�s visit. �What My Feelings About Learning Look Like� is a group of paintings completed by an Art Menu class this Semester. These paintings are visual interpretations of how students feel about learning. The project that these students completed, embraces the concepts of learning, realization, and expression by way of visual media. Stop in the gallery, any time on Thursday.

Camp Ta Kum Ta Bake Sale

Judy Bickford�s 7^th grade TA is holding a bake sale on Dec. 7 to raise money for Camp Ta Kum Ta, a VT camp for children that provides a free week of camping to those children between the ages of 7 and 17 who have been diagnosed with cancer. The TA wants to raise enough $ to send a student to camp. (approx. $2500). Bill Dunn, one of the evening custodians, is dying a part of his hair pink for every $500.00 donated. He�s willing to turn his mustache and the hair on his head pink. If you see him you�ll notice that he wears a picture of Grace around his neck. Grace is his inspiration as she died from cancer before camp started this past summer. If you would like you can help us reach our goal by bringing in a baked good (cookies, fudge, bars, cupcakes, etc.) on Friday December 7. We will be selling the baked goods in the Atrium between 7:45 and 1:00 for $.50/item. If you have any questions please contact Judy Bickford. Thank-you.

On Election Day

Two classes are combining forces to hold a presidential, gubernatorial and Lt. Governor election for the U-32 community. Paula Emery�s Democratic Roots and the Community Living Program, taught by Judy Bickford and Kenny Saxe, will set up a ballot box in the Atrium on Tuesday November 6 for voting for the student body between the hours of 7:30 and 1:00.

Meditation Group Forming

For high school students and staff. To suit the contract and the busy lives of students, we�ll meet in the early morning (we�re thinking 7:15-7:45 once a week to start). This announcement is to assess interest. We�ll have a quick planning meeting the first week of November to make collective decision about the details.

The New Shapiro Teen Center

THE NEW SHAPIRO DROP-IN TEEN CENTER (high school only) is open Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 2:50-4:30. Movie day is Fridays. Come out and visit with friends, play ping pong, foosball, listen to music, play music (bring your instrument), use our computers and share your creativity and ideas.

The PSAT

will be administered at U-32 on Saturday, October 20 at 7:45 am. Bagels and juice will be available from 7:15 to 7:45. Students will need to bring their admission ticket, #2 pencils, social security number and a calculator. Testing will be completed at approximately 11:30am. Thank you.

Student Council/Class Council Leadership Group

The next meeting of the Student Council/Class Council Leadership Group will be on Tuesday, October 9^th from 8:15-9:15am. Please let your Class 1 teachers know (ahead of time) that you will be missing class. Also, please bring a pencil/pen, great ideas and an open mind.

Learn American Sign Language

There's an upcoming class in American Sign Language (ASL 1) being offered through Community Connections at U-32.

ASL class will be easy paced, fun-filled, with lots of review. The key to successful language acquisition is to use ASL interactively among students, allowing emphasis on both receptive and expressive language acquisition with no translation between target language and students� first language. Group supported field trip(s) to Deaf events may be made for further reinforcement.
Class will use the Signing Naturally Curriculum book from Dawn Sign Press. ASL I class uses Signing Naturally Student Workbook Unit 1-6. Students will go over particular chapters that reinforce meaningful learning by including information that is applicable to students� daily living. Students will continue learning through reading and practice exercises in the book to gain knowledge of American Sign Language.

10 weekly classes, beginning October 1, 2012

Special Olympics Bowling

starts Thursday, September 27th. We are looking for athletes and partners to practice every Thursday from now until the tournament at Twin City Lanes on Monday, December 3, 2012. Student Council/Class Council Kick-Off Meeting

DEAR HS & MS STUDENT COUNCIL AND 9-12TH GRADE CLASS COUNCIL MEMBERS,

As we mentioned in the class assemblies on your first day of school, we would like to gather student groups together more often to discuss issues that affect all of us at U-32. We want to hear what you have to say and hope to be able to communicate information to you also.

We would like to invite all members of the 9-12th grade Class Councils (and advisors) AND all members of the HS/MS Student Council (and advisors) to a �kick off� meeting on Tuesday, Sept 11th at 9:25am (Band 2) in the Auditorium. Your teachers will be notified of this �in-school� field trip but you should make sure that you mention it to them on Friday and Monday so that they remember it.

The Secretary of State�s Office is pleased to sponsor HIGH SCHOOL VOTER EDUCATION & REGISTRATION WEEK FROM June 4-8.

Students from Democracy In Action will conduct two Voter Registration days on Tuesday, June 5 and Wednesday, June 6 during Band 3 in the Atrium. Students who are 18 or who will be 18 on or before the date of the general election, which is Tuesday, November 6, 2012, will be eligible to register to vote on these days.

Students registering to vote will have to present a photocopy of an acceptable form of ID, which will include one of the following:

A valid photo ID (driver�s license or passport), a copy of a current utility bill, a copy of a current bank statement or a copy of another government document

Summer Jobs

THE CITYSCAPE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM, located in Barre, Vermont is recruiting high school-age students to serve as co-facilitators for summer programming! CityScape serves rising 4th grade through 8th grade students who attend Barre City Elementary and Middle School. This summer CityScape will run six weeks of day programs at Barre City Elementary and Middle School beginning the last week of June.

Our typical daily schedule would be as follows:
9-12 Group morning activities
12-1 Lunch time
1-4 Group afternoon activities and swimming at Barre City municipal pool (within walking distance from the school).

CityScape is hiring for the following positions: Co-facilitators: Role models and mentors for middle-school aged program participants. VTrans National Summer Transportation Institute

Do you know of any high school students who will be sophomores, juniors, or seniors next fall looking for something fun and free to do this summer?
They can spend two weeks living at UVM during the National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI), July 29 - August 10. The program is being offered to high school students who will be sophomores, juniors, and seniors next fall.

VYCC summer job opportunity

VYCC will receive funding this summer to hire six Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Crew Members who will work on the Farm at VYCC. This is a great opportunity for youth who would benefit from a structured summer job. U-32 can have 2 students!

Crew Members will work on the farm and will learn a lot about farming. More importantly, they will obtain a set of basic workforce skills that will be useful and transferable to any future employment situation.

Here are details about the work:

� Wages: Minimum Wage (same as other VYCC crews) Location: Farm at VYCC in Richmond, VT

Looking for Peer Leaders for China Camp

CHINA EXCHANGE SUMMER CAMP, 2012

From June 27 - July 7, 2012, Community Connections will be hosting a group of high school students from China. High Schoolers from U-32 and MHS are invited to apply to be peer leaders along with this program. Peer leaders will attend 8:30 � 4:30 daily, participating in activities such as spoken English language sessions, swimming, exploring, field trips around the region, etc. In return for your service you will receive a letter for your college portfolio, and the experience of a lifetime. Most of our days will be held at MHS and a few will be at U-32. Applications are available in the Guidance Office.

Volunteers for Peace

On Tuesday, April 17th from 10:30 am - 12:15 pm, Volunteers for Peace will have a display table in the Atrium. They will have information about their voluntary service projects available. More information can be found at www.vpf.org.

Student State Board of Education Membership Applications

Governor Shumlin's office is seeking applications from students interested in serving as a member of the State Board of Education. Vermont is one of the few states with a full voting student member on its Board of Education. Vermont secondary students who will graduate in 2014 or later are eligible to apply for a two-year term. During the student member's first year, they are a non-voting member. In the second year, the student will have voting rights along with the eight other adult members. The term for the student who is chosen will begin on July 1, 2012. Students interested in this exciting opportunity should send a completed STUDENT APPLICATION for Gubernatorial Appointment to Susan Spaulding, Governor's Office, 109 State Street, Montpelier, VT 05609-1101. VTVLC courses open for registration

VTVLC (Vermont Virtual Learning Cooperative) courses are open for registration for the 2012-2013 school year. These are free online courses for students in grades 7-12. Available courses are listed under the "Course Listings" link on the left side of the VTVLC website: (https://vtvlc.org).

***If a student put a VTVLC course in her/his course requests they still need to register online for the course. (S)he can let her/his TA know and then pick up the approval form and directions for registering in the Guidance office. The U-32 Library is proud to host Mike Mullin, award-winning young adult author of the book, Ashfall. Mike will be at U-32 on Wednesday, March 14th for three presentations. He will begin by speaking with all EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS IN THE AUDITORIUM FROM 8:20-9:15.

The National Youth Science Camp is a residential science education program for young scientists the summer after they graduate from high school. Students from around the country are challenged academically in exciting lectures and hands-on studies, and have voluntary opportunities to participate in an outdoor adventure program, and to establish friendships that last a lifetime. College Quest to Health Careers

Great opportunity for students interested in health careers. AHEC is hosting a free 6-week residential summer camp for current 11th grade Vermonters from first generation to attend college or modest income families. Yes, that is totally FREE. Additionally, students meeting certain income requirements will receive a $1,485 stipend to use towards college on completion of the 6?week program.

There is still time to sign up for semester two VTVLC courses. If a student is already enrolled in a semester two course, the instructor will send an email before the start date with instructions on how to begin.

During Red Ribbon Week students are encouraged to commit to live a drug and alcohol free lifestyle. This year's motto for red ribbon week is "It's up to me to be drug free". National Ally Week

is October 17-21. In honor of this, QSA students will offer events throughout the week.

THURSDAY: National Wear Purple/Spirit Day�Students and faculty/staff please wear purple to symbolize interrupting hate. This day is to remember the young people who have committed suicide after hate was directed toward them because of their actual or perceived sexual orientation. You will also see purple ribbons tied on door handles throughout the school to remind students to be allies and save lives.

Picture Retakes Oct. 11

Lifetouch will be back on October 11. We are going to accommodate the 7th grade field trips during TA or a little before and then anyone that needs to can bring their package back and have a retake done. If parents have any questions about what they bought, there is a paper inside the package that explains how to get in touch with Lifetouch to do this or to talk to them about problems. Anyone that did not have their picture done on the first days of school can also have their picture taken on October 11th.

Students and staff need to have their picture taken, even if you don't purchase a picture package, so if you didn't have your picture taken on the first days of school, please be sure to have your picture taken on Tuesday, October 11th.

February in Thailand

Montpelier to Thailand Eight is open to U-32 students! Students from Montpelier High School have been spending February vacation in a rural, rice-farming village on the Mekong River in Northeast Thailand for since 2005. Two U-32 students participated in M2T7 this past February and Linda Wheatley, the project organizer, hopes for that number to quadruple in 2012.

M2T is not just a trip - it's an eight month program of fund-raising, group development and getting organized. We learn some Thai, hold dances, dinners and other events, stack wood for donations, go camping and do a ropes course in the fall...and it's fun and rewarding. The prize is the most unbelievable experience of your life - being welcomed into the community, families and exotic life of Ban Pha Chan.

The Vermont Institute On Health And Wellness is a nonprofit that leads week-long intensive overnight summer experiences for current high school students and upcoming freshmen who are interested in health careers, wellness, and leadership. Current grade 9-12 students can attend as the date of an 11th or 12th grade student. Students can attend individually or may purchase 1 ticket for a date. If your date doesn't attend U-32, you will need to give us his/her full name and parent's phone # at the time you purchase your tickets.

Checks can be made out to U-32.

Please remember that Prom is a U-32 sponsored event. Thus all school rules apply concerning possession, use or being under the influence of any illegal drug, regulated substance, tobacco product or alcohol.

VTVLC sign-up deadline

VTVLC course priority registration for our students ends May 26^th. That means adults, home school students, etc. will begin enrolling after that date making enrollment more competitive. If you have TAs who hope to take VTVLC courses next year please send them to their counselor ASAP.

U-32 Library wins award

All students and staff are invited to attend the U-32 Library Celebration in the auditorium during Band 2 on Wednesday, May 11^th. Students must either come with their classroom teacher or on their own if they do not have a scheduled high school class. Speakers include: Steve Barrows (emcee), Governor Shumlin, Katherine Paterson, Nancy Everhart, Calvin McEathron, and Liz Gilbert. Video, flash fiction and altered book contest winners will be announced.

Water Bottle Sale

Back by popular demand � DEMOCRACY IN ACTION'S - water bottle sale will continue on Wednesday, May 2, band 3. Buy a reusable water bottle with a $1-$3 donation. Your money will help U-32 purchase water filters to make the fountains better, colder and tastier. Last year U-32 used over 12,000 disposable water bottles!

Serve on the State Bd. of Education

GOVERNOR SEEKS APPLICATION FOR STUDENT MEMBERSHIP ON THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION
Governor Shumlin's office is seeking applications from students interested in becoming a member of the Vermont State Board of Education. Vermont is one of the few states with a full voting student member on its State Board of Education. This is an exciting opportunity for Vermont's young people. Applicants should be secondary students who will graduate in 2013 or later for a two-year term on the Board. During the student member's first year, they are a non-voting member. In the second year, the student will have voting rights along with the eight other adult members. The term for the student who is chosen will begin on July 1, 2011. High School Monopoly Tournament

UNIVERSITY MALL OF SOUTH BURLINGTON is seeking students, grades 9 -12 to participate in our first annual High School Monopoly Tournament presented by New England Federal Credit Union. Register now, in 2-person teams, at www.umallvt.com. This will be a 2-day event: Qualifying games held on Saturday, May 14 at 11:00am and finals will be held on Saturday, May 21 at 11:00 am. UBAND on April 7th

Unified Bocce Ball

Yearbooks

We have ordered 60 extra yearbooks that are available to purchase (25 of which are for seniors that haven't ordered theirs yet). Pat will be pre-selling these next week at the Circulation Desk in the Library. They are $42.00 but a $12.00 deposit will hold one.

Hoops for Hunger

a fundraiser to help end Hunger in Vermont begins Tuesday; you can join through Thursday morning for the men's brackets and through the end of the day for the women's. For a $2 donation to "Hunger Free Vermont," you can pick the brackets for either the men or women's NCAA basketball tournament. Applications for the 2011 summer institutes are available online. This includes health and scholarship application forms. Applications may be submitted to Kristie Ferguson in the main office. The original deadline of March 15 has been extended to March 18, 2011, and this deadline is firm.

Unified Sports Fundraiser

Bakery will donate 50% of the proceeds to support U-32's Unified Sports Program. Simply tell your server that you are there to support U-32's Unified Sports Program. Unified athletes and partners will be on hand to help out with hosting, busing, and setting tables. Be sure to invite your family, friends, and neighbors for a fun-filled night at the Wayside!

Unified Sports� is a registered program with Special Olympics. This program pairs athletes with and without disabilities on the same team. Teams compete against other Unified Sports teams at Special Olympics tournaments. In Vermont there are presently 18 schools participating and five tournaments for Unified Sports athletes. In 2006, U-32 received the Vermont Principal Association's endorsement, and to-date, U-32 has accumulated over 500 medals!

U-32 Family Fun & Fitness Night Tonight!

Beat Cabin Fever - Come play at U-32! All community members are invited to come to this free evening event featuring a variety of recreation and fitness activities for all ages and abilities. Students who are under 15 must have an adult present. If weather permits, skiing and sliding under the lights will also be open with your own equipment.
