JV and Varsity Girls Preseason Soccer Information

I hope everyone has been enjoying the fairly warm and always short summer vacation. As the season approaches time is winding down to get yourself prepared for preseason and the start of soccer. Our season starts on Aug. 19th with a fall sports meeting with Amy Molina and our training with officially start on Monday August 23rd. Practices are scheduled to go from 3:15 to 6:00 for the first week for all girls in grades 9-12. There is a Varsity scrimmage that is set for August 28th at Harwood Union High School.

In preparation for preseason players should be currently running and playing soccer as often as possible. Training runs should be between 3 to 4 miles to increase cardiovascular endurance. Players should also be playing small sided games or working on shorts sprints and agility drills to increase foot speed and touch on the ball. It is important to put in time prior to the start of the season so that preseason can focus more on tactics and team play than on team conditioning. The U32 weight room is currently open from 4:00 to 6:00 each weekday to help with strength training and conditioning.

Players need to plan on attending all practices and trainings. You will need to be prepared to start practices at 3:15 and have all the required gear with you. You will need to have running shoes, soccer cleats, a mouth guard, shin guards and water for every practice. If you are planning on getting a new pair of cleats for this season it is better to get them sooner than later. Breaking them in before the start of the season will help prevent hot spots and blistering during the first couple of weeks.

I am very excited to return to coaching varsity soccer this fall after a couple years away. I am also very excited to have Dave Pickel stay on as the assistant coach and I would like to welcome Kari Johnson, our new JV coach, to the program. I look forward to the start of the season and hope everyone enjoys the remainder of their summer. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Steve Towne
