The School
U-32 has an enrollment of about 800 students. The school's unique features include:

A Teacher Advisor (TA) system in which each faculty member acts as an advocate for approximately 14 students, allowing each student to experience an ongoing, in-depth relationship with one staff member throughout his/her school career.

Co-curricular rather than extra curricular: The belief that sports and drama are co-curricular learning experiences rather than extra-curricular. Students are awarded grades and credit, and these activities are included on the transcript.

A non-traditional philosophy where staff are addressed on a first name basis, students are responsible for their own unscheduled time, and ropes courses and outdoor survival skills are taught.

Honors: Graduates with GPA's of 3.67 or higher are formally recognized in lieu of National Honor Society.

Advanced Placement: Students who have taken 2 of the 3 most advanced English classes have the necessary preparation for the AP English Lit/Comp exam. Students who have taken Calculus, Statistics and Advanced US History have the necessary preparation to take the AP Calculus exam, the AP Statistics exam and the AP US History Exam.

Branching Out: A standards based program that offers students the opportunity to initiate and develop independent studies with a community mentor and program advisor.

Alternate Path to Graduation: Option that allows students to meet the U-32 academic, civic and social standards through workplace skills and experience.

High Expectations for All
At U-32, we strive to be a learning community that promotes commitment to personal growth. We believe in a cooperative and collaborative spirit that brings together students, parents, guardians and school personnel to work toward shared goals and offers the best opportunity for all students to achieve their personal best. We encourage each parent, guardian, and student to be active participants in this shared endeavor.

The Faculty

The Community
The five rural towns of Berlin, Calais, East Montpelier, Middlesex and Worcester surround the capital city of Montpelier and unite to form the Washington Central Supervisory Union. Each of the towns has its own elementary school, and those schools send their students to U-32 for grades 7-12. The towns have a total population of approximately 9,765. Residents represent a broad range of educational, economic, and religious backgrounds and our community benefits enormously from their combined energy and talents.the community
